How to Get to Serbia (Belgrade) by Bus from Ukraine

How to Get to Serbia (Belgrade) by Bus from Ukraine

You can get from Ukraine to Belgrade, the capital of Serbia, by direct bus with no transfers. It is the Kyiv — Budva service: it runs through Zhytomyr, Rivne, Lviv, Stryi, Mukachevo and Berehove, then via Timișoara in Romania to Belgrade, and on to Montenegro. If Serbia is your destination, Belgrade is where your trip ends.

Regular weekly departures in both directions; available dates are in the date picker on the route page. You book online, and after payment your ticket with a QR code arrives by email.

Where the bus to Serbia departs from

You can board the Ukraine — Serbia bus in seven cities. Stops, departure times and one-way fares to Belgrade:

For boarding in the capital see the Kyiv — Belgrade page; for boarding in the west, Lviv — Belgrade. There is no stop in Uzhhorod itself — the nearest boarding point is Mukachevo (about 40 km away), at the UPG filling station.

Where the bus stops in Belgrade

The Belgrade stop is the EKO filling station. The bus gets there on day two of the trip. The exact arrival time is still being confirmed, so check the current timetable on the route page before you travel.

The stop in Belgrade is short, as the bus then continues to Montenegro. Have your things ready and get off straight away with all your luggage. Belgrade is the capital of Serbia and a convenient base for travelling further around the country.

How long it takes to Belgrade

Passengers from Kyiv leave at 22:00 and reach Belgrade the next day, spending one night on the bus. From Lviv and Zakarpattia the bus leaves in the morning, and according to the timetable you reach Belgrade the same day.

The bus makes scheduled stops on the way. In Ukraine these are mostly filling stations; the longest stops are in Rivne and Lviv, 20 minutes each. In Romania the bus stops in Timișoara: arrival 18:00, departure 18:15.

There are two borders on the way to Serbia: Ukraine — Romania and Romania — Serbia. How long they take can't be known in advance, so don't plan meetings or connections tied to an exact arrival hour — leave yourself some slack.

On board and luggage

The bus has a toilet, air conditioning, 220 V sockets, USB ports and Starlink internet. The fare includes 1 piece of luggage up to 25 kg and hand luggage up to 5 kg; extra luggage is 1,200 UAH per piece up to 25 kg.

Keep documents, money, medicines and chargers in your hand luggage. Bring water and snacks without meat or dairy: they cannot be brought into the EU, and the bus passes through Romania.

What to pack

  • your passport and the QR ticket saved on your phone;
  • a neck pillow and a warm layer — the bus is air-conditioned, and from Kyiv you travel overnight;
  • water and snacks without meat or dairy;
  • a power bank and charging cables;
  • wet wipes, hand sanitiser and medicines in their original packaging;
  • headphones for watching films over Starlink.

Documents for Serbia

You need a biometric passport for international travel. Ukrainian citizens with a biometric passport can enter Montenegro, Serbia and Romania visa-free; check the current rules on the Ministry of Foreign Affairs website before you travel.

Keep your passport to hand: it is checked for every passenger at every border. Officers may ask about the purpose of your trip and where you will stay, so keep your accommodation booking or address on your phone. We recommend arranging medical insurance in advance. Serbia uses the dinar, so a little cash for first expenses is useful.

Tip: accommodation in Belgrade

Since the exact arrival time in Belgrade is still being confirmed and borders can take longer than expected, choose accommodation with flexible or 24-hour check-in. Let your hosts know you are coming by bus from Ukraine and agree how to stay in touch: the Starlink internet on board lets you message and follow the map on the way.

Travelling with children? Don't forget the child's travel documents, and check the requirements in advance on the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine website.

Bus, plane or train?

There are currently no direct flights from Ukraine, so you have to fly from an airport in a neighbouring country. There is no direct train to Belgrade either — it takes several trains and changes. These options can be faster but mean several tickets and transfers with luggage.

The direct bus is simpler: one boarding point in your city, one ticket and you get off in Belgrade with no changes.

Getting back from Belgrade to Ukraine

The return service runs from Montenegro via Belgrade. The bus leaves the Belgrade EKO filling station at 04:10, reaches Lviv at 22:00 the same day and Kyiv at 05:20 the next morning. Scheduled journey time is 24 h 10 min to Kyiv and 16 h 50 min to Lviv. Fares start from 5,500 UAH to Lviv and 5,900 UAH to Kyiv. Timetable and dates are on the Belgrade — Kyiv page.
